Côte de Beaune

A key wine-producing district of Burgundy in the east of France.

The Côte de Beaune area is the southern part of the Côte d'Or, the limestone ridge that is home to the great names of Burgundy wine. The Côte de Beaune starts between Nuits-Saint-Georges and Beaune, and extends southwards for about 25 km to the river Dheune. The trend of producing red wines continues from the Côte de Nuits to the north, down through Beaune, although the wines become lighter and more perfumed. Farther south lie the great names of white Burgundy such as Meursault and Chassagne-Montrachet.

Product Details

This wine is made from 100% Pinot Noir grapes grown in the Clos des Epeneaux vineyard in Pommard. The Clos des Epeneaux is a monopole vineyard, meaning that it is owned by a single producer. The Comte Armand vineyard is one of the most prestigious in Burgundy, and the Clos des Epeneaux is considered to be one of the finest vineyards in Pommard.

The 2008 vintage was a good year for Burgundy, with warm and dry weather conditions. The wines from this vintage are generally characterized by their ripe fruit flavors and soft tannins.
This wine is already starting to show its potential. It has aromas of red and black fruit, such as cherries, plums, and raspberries. There are also some floral and spice notes, such as violets and cloves. The palate is full-bodied and well-structured, with ripe tannins and a long finish.

The Pommard 1er Cru Clos des Epeneaux 2008 Comte Armand has received rave reviews from critics. Wine Spectator awarded the wine 98 points, and Robert Parker Jr. gave it 96 points.
