Côte de Beaune

A key wine-producing district of Burgundy in the east of France.

The Côte de Beaune area is the southern part of the Côte d'Or, the limestone ridge that is home to the great names of Burgundy wine. The Côte de Beaune starts between Nuits-Saint-Georges and Beaune, and extends southwards for about 25 km to the river Dheune. The trend of producing red wines continues from the Côte de Nuits to the north, down through Beaune, although the wines become lighter and more perfumed. Farther south lie the great names of white Burgundy such as Meursault and Chassagne-Montrachet.

TERROIR

The vineyard of Château Potensac extends mainly over limestone subsoil covered with clay-gravel hillocks with a high proportion of gravel. These limestones are very similar to those found in the Saint-Estèphe appellation. This singular terroir has plots of Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc planted over 80 years ago, producing perfectly ripe and healthy grapes. The first edition of Féret already mentioned the hamlet of Potensac for the typicity and longevity of its wines.
VINTAGE 2011
2011 is the second hottest vintage of the decade after 2003! It will be remembered for the exceptionally hot and dry spring that meant a very early flowering. In mid-July the colour change got off to a slow start and then accelerated after some rain showers. The regular summer rain counterbalanced the real lack of water observed at the beginning of the season. The final maturity levels were very good, particularly for the phenological potential in the Cabernet Francs. A great ageing vintage.

Blend Cabernet Sauvignon 34% Merlot 52% Cabernet Franc 14%
